B11N have Strong Start to the Spring.

(03.15.10)

A Shout Out to the U11B Nike after a convincing 2 - nil win to start the spring season. With better finishing it could have been 4 or 5 - nil. The team also finished 3d in the Sunbelt Classic Tournament. The boys took to the winter indoor training season with a renewed commitment and focus to excel this spring. They came into form during the January festival, gelled during Sunbelt, and have now started out in strong fashion. After back-to-back shutouts, U11B Nike looks ready to compete strongly in Premier 2.

B13 Nike Takes 2nd Straight Title
(02.24.10)

Earlier this February, the Pikes Peak Rush U-13 team, under the leadership of their new coach Dan Highstead set their sites on the prestigious New Mexico Spring Cup. Their arrival in the Land of Enchantment, Albuquerque New Mexico, undeniably added to the vast history of this beautiful city while their final departure left the four New Mexico teams that they beat for the Championship, in a less than enchanted state of mind.

With four straight wins, Pikes Peak Rush Nike U-13 made the road to Gold look effortless although the medal honor hardly came easy.

The important first game against New Mexico Rush 98 took off at a slow start until a penalty kick  by Pikes Peak proved to change the mood and the momentum of this game leading to  a 4 to 3 win by Pikes Peak while also changing the level of confidence that became apparent in the next 3 games to come.

New Mexico’s Striker FC VIII (ranked 2nd in the state) and Rio Vista FC Millionarios both made gallant attempts in games two and three to send Pikes Peak packin’ but with strong wins of 4-1 and 7-0 their efforts would prove to be nothing less than unsuccessful.

With the Championship game still remaining to claim gold and one of the biggest snow storms of the year approaching, Pikes Peak did not waste a minute as they fought in true Rush spirit, against the elements and the talent of New Mexico Rush 97 for a slim 3 to 2 win.

With a new coach and a new season ahead of them many Gold medals are surely to be garnered by Pikes Peak Rush U-13 Team Nike.

G14 Nike End the Fall Season and Start the Spring Season in Style
(02.18.10)

Our U-14 Pikes Peak Rush Nike team has had a very fun and successful fall season! With most games ending in a victory, we also had one loss, and a few ties. Our new players have been such a positive addition to our team. We recently participated in the New Mexico Rush Spring Cup and took first place! We are so happy with the result in the tournament, and hope to kick off our spring season with another good result in the upcoming Storm Cup. Our team has improved tremendously during the winter and early spring due to an early start on pracitces, hopefully this should help us have an awesome spring season!
Go Rush!

U-13 Nike celebrated their 2nd Annual Gingerbread Party on December 5th.

eating) all the confections!  This holiday event was followed with pizza and
bowling and made for a memorable, team-bonding experience!

B14 Nike win Gaylord Sheppard Tournament in NM
(12.03.09)

                       (U14 Nike Boys  -Tournament Champs)
After an uneasy start to the tournament the B14 Nike won their second
consecutive tournament in NM after a win on PK's over Los Alomos,
failing to score in regulation even though they dominated the game in
terms of possession and goal scoring chances.  For the whole story
please click here.  Congratulations on another tournament win.

The latest Rush Sports Medicine Supplement newsletter will inform you
about growth plate injuries.  These types of injuries can often be mistaken
for a bruise or a sprain.  Read the newsletter to learn how and why this
happens.

Congratulations for a great fall season
(12.02.09)
With the new league schedule employed by the state this year, many of the
leagues that our players are playing in are only the half way mark, but we
would still like to congratulate every one of the Rush Pikes Peak teams with
special recognition to those that finished or are currently holding the top
three spots.

Congratulations on a great season!

BOWLING--GREAT TEAM BONDING ACTIVITY
(11.10.09)

If your team is looking for a team building activity outside of soccer---try bowling.
It's fun, inexpensive and a wonderful way to bond with teammates and other parents.
The Swoosh U12 team bowled with Coach Brian Simmons and Ken Knitter and had
a blast.  Everyone enjoyed it.  Congratulations Coach Brian on a 13-1-1 season with
your Boys' JV soccer team at Palmer Ridge High School.  We know you also have
great expectations for Swoosh.  We look forward to a strong spring season---thanks coach!

G13 Nike Player Spotlight
(10.14.09)

Our first featured player this month is a speedy girl with the heart of an athlete and a friend. She has terrific moves on and off of the soccer field. Outside of soccer she participates in Cross Country and softball. This year she has really been tearing it up in the mile and a half and two miles. She recorded two first place finishes as well as finishing second twice in the mile and a half. This was out of 130 competitors. In addition she had one third place finish. This team player is also a very good student. She gets A's and B's and her favorite subject is science. When she grows up she wants to be either a professional soccer player or runner. Maybe one day she'll set a new record in the Olympics for the mile and a half! This incredible right and left back is Michala!!

Longitude or latitude, you won't be able to track this lightning bolt of a player on the field! While attending Janitell Junior High, this whiz of a defender and forward can run 400 meters in under 1 minute and 10 seconds! She holds this school record for track. When she hits the books, her favorite subject is geography. While she is out of school, she likes to juggle the soccer ball Her favorite soccer player plays for the LA Galaxy...do you think you know who this out of this world Galaxy player is??? Todd Dunavant?? WRONG! Bend it like Nik Penn?!? Nope. Bend it like Paul Davison?!? Nope. Bend it like BECKHAM!! (no offense Paul...Nik, I am just being "cocky", as you say.) This mystery player's favorite food is cinnamon toast! Ready to bend it like...DARBY!!![?]

REACH and RVC's
(10.13.09)

Hello Rush membership, I would like take a moment to briefly introduce the REACH program, a Rush program that I am very passionate about. REACH (Rush Equipment Assisting Children) is designed to share love and compassion with marginalized youth in third world countries by providing youth soccer clubs, schools, and villages with soccer uniforms and equipment.  Furthermore, REACH strives to be advocates of community development by enriching the lives of youth through service, soccer, and education.  Please click here to read the full letter from Tim Schulz.

Rush Headed to 2010 World Cup!
(10.12.09)

AND SO IS THE UNITED STATES! Thanks to the foot (and head) of Conor Casey, the U.S. defeated a previously unbeaten (at home) Honduras team supported by more than 45,000 fanatics. The U.S. battled a tough opponent, a raucous crowd and some sketchy officiating to win 3-2. After the U.S. conceded a free kick goal in the 46th minute (due to sloppy play by Oguchi Onyewu), Conor headed in the first of his two goals by out jumping and out battling the Honduran goal keeper.  Conor's willingness to put his body in harms way made the difference. Ten minutes later, Conor would net his second after taking a slipped pass by Landon Donovan on the sprint and then calmly tucked the ball into the side netting for a 2-1 lead. Five minutes later Conor would keep possession and earn the foul that was converted by Donovan for a 3-1 lead. Honduras would score a second goal (though there was a hint of offsides leading up to the goal) in the 78th minute.  When a penalty kick was called in the 87th minute, it seemed a tie was in the cards and what a cruel result that would have been.  The U.S.'s Stuart Holden was whistled for a handball in the box. Carlos Pavon, who converted a penalty against the U.S. on Sept. 1, 2001, in Washington, D.C., in the last U.S. loss on home soil - missed the chance to equalize.  The U.S. dealt with the onslaught over the next six minutes until the final whistle blew.  The U.S. had qualified for the World Cup!  With Conor's amazing performance, he (and thus Rush) has solidified his position with the U.S. National Team as they now prepare for South Africa!  Congratulations Conor!! G12 Swoosh - Picnic at Colorado College Womens Soccer
(10.07.09)

On Sunday, September 27th the girls U12 Swoosh Team, parents, siblings and Coach Brian enjoyed a picnic while watching women's soccer at Colorado College. The weather was gorgeous (well, maybe a tad hot) for an outdoor activity. Even though Coach Brian was rooting for Tulsa (his hometown), the CC Tigers were victorious with a 2-0 win. Our Swoosh girls thought it was awesome to see how often and how well the college players headed the ball! After the game the girls got posters, balls & shirts autographed by the Tigers. Thanks Monica Meehan for coordinating such a fun outing!

A Day with Lady Falcons
(09.22.09)

The U-11 Nike girls enjoyed a team outing day at the Air Force Academy Sept. 20 watching the women's soccer team perform. Thanks to James Harrington for organizing the event, he said the Lady Falcons were impressed with how warmly the U-11 girls welcomed them to the "After the Game" picnic, and how they enjoyed the root beer floats, courtesy of the Harrington's. The teammates enjoyed the warm weather at the field as well as the team bonding.

The Harrington's are sponsoring Cadet Sophia Lockerby, number 16, and Cadet Eryn Avjian, number 23. Hopefully the two cadets can come to one of the Nike girl's games, and witness a victory!

RUSH Pikes Peak U12G Champions Again!
Team wins local 2009 Pride of the Rockies Classic Tournament
(
09.21.09)

The Pikes Peak RUSH U12G team continues their strong seasonal start with another tournament champion win only allowing one goal against them during the series!  The team looks forward to acting as RUSH ambassadors along with the U11G for the United States Air Force Women's Soccer Team in this weekend's play against New Hampshire go Lady Falcons!

GU13 Rush Player Spotlight
(09.21.09)

Our first featured player is one of a kind! She has developed a lot just through our Rush Festival in Kansas City and our first couple games of the season playing center midfielder. Cobwebs are already cleared out of her shooting boots. This player is not only a stud soccer player but also a good student when it comes to hitting the books. In her free time she enjoys riding horses, participating in track, reading, and playing Wii. She has two dogs but she doesn't have any siblings. This player is in seventh grade and has been playing soccer since she was three or four, that's seven years!!  She is not yet sure of what she is going to be when she grows up. Lastly, her favorite soccer player is Cristiano Ronaldo. Who is she...Jenna!!

Our second player has a craving for sushi. In her spare time she shops and figure skates. This goalie and defender has two brothers whos ages are 8 and 13. Her favorite soccer player is Kaka who currently plays for Real Madrid.  She has been playing soccer for seven or eight years. While off the soccer field she gets amazing grades at her online school. Lastly, this wiz of a goalie hasn't decided what she is going to do when she grows up. Who is she? Need another hint? Her number is 81. She is Ally!!

These two players have been shining bright but so has our team altogether.  We opened up our season with a BANG!! We won our first three games with a combined score of 17 goals for and 0 goals against.

Act on Your Dreams - Defining Perseverance
(09.17.09)

The Santa Clara Women's soccer team is once again a force to be reckoned with in College Soccer. After a rough season last year, the Broncos have started off this season in a big way including upsets of two top 10 teams last weekend. Santa Clara upset No. 5 Notre Dame 2-0 Friday night and followed that up with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Purdue on Sunday. Santa Clara's emergence (5-2-2) back into the national picture is due, in no small part, to the return of Colorado Rush Alum Jordan Angeli. Jordan, a sixth year senior, had spent the last 2 years at Santa Clara rehabbing her knee. A healthy Jordan is clearly paying dividends on the field.

Two Tournaments Equals Two Championships for the U14 Girls Swoosh
(09.01.09)

The U14 Girls Pikes Peak Swoosh, earned their second championship in as many weekends by winning the Pride of the Rockies Classic, held over the 21-23 August Weekend.  Once again, the Swoosh offense averaged over 5 goals a game in the preliminaries, while their stifling defense allowed only one goal all tournament.

New Start for G11 Nike
(09.01.09)

The U-11 Nike girls bonded on and off the field at the Colorado Storm tournament August 14 and 15. Coach Nik Penn has been secured as their coach, after Coach Carissa underwent surgery and had health reasons to pass the baton . After their first games of the season August 29 and 30, Coach Penn has given them some homework. Pass the ball, play the way they are facing and feel comfortable taking a first touch away from the pressure. Another goal, by Sept. 17, 15 juggles per player. Is there a birthday near that date for Coach Penn? The U-11 Nike girls have undergone a lot of changes in the first few weeks of their competitive year, and are becoming good friends and teammates as well as improving as athletes at every practice.

Pikes Peak Rush U-14 Girls Dominate Colorado Storm Classic  Soccer Tournament
(08.19.09)

Pikes Peak Rush U-14 girls dominated both brackets in the Bronze Division of this annual fall pre-season tournament.  Swoosh scored an impressive 22 goals in 4 games to go undefeated in pool play.  Not to be outdone, Platinum also went undefeated in pool play, posting 4 consecutive shut outs.  The final was a well executed, sportsmanlike, and hard fought match.  With about 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the unrelenting Swoosh attack broke a scoreless tie, and later added another goal to win 2-0.  Congratulations to all the girls and the coaches of Swoosh and Platinum for an outstanding tournament and thanks to Colorado Storm for hosting another great event!

Pikes Peak Rush girls attend Rush Festival
(08.18.09)

On July 22, 2009, the Pikes Peak Nike U13 girls team traveled to Olathe, Kansas with their coach Nik Penn, for the Rush Festival.  Many of the girls and a few parent chaperones drove from Colorado Springs to Olathe and even though it was a long drive they had a lot of fun and experienced the true meaning of team bonding.  They met up with Nike Rush teams from all across the country including Alaska and Hawaii.  They played friendly yet competitive games in the mornings and had classroom and training sessions in the afternoons.  The coaching staff included 16 'A' License coaches (the highest coaching award in the US), a World Cup winning coach and an Olympic Gold Medal coach. During the afternoon training sessions, they were able to meet and talk with some of the MLS players including Kevin Hartman, the goalkeeper for the Kansas City Wizards. They attended an ice cream social where all of the Rush teams exchanged gifts that represented their teams. Some of the gifts included shirts, key chains, and bracelets.

On Saturday evening, all of the Rush teams attended an MLS game between the Wizards and the L.A. Galaxy, featuring world-class players such as Landon Donovan and David Beckham. The spirited group from the Rush Festival continually shouted chants and cheers that encouraged David Beckham to take notice and wave to the group.

The Rush Festival was a wonderful opportunity for the PP Rush U13 girls to see how Nike Rush is strong and flourishing throughout the US. It provided a great opportunity to train as a team with some of Rush's top coaches and play against other skilled teams.  The staff instilled the concept of “The Rush Way" which encourages passion, leadership, respect and above all quality.

The above picture is Rush Pikes Peak and Hawaii Rush G13 Nike teams.

U14 Swoosh boys succeed at Denver Cup!
(08.13.09)

Congratulations are in order for the boys U14 Swoosh team.  Under the direction of new coach Sean Kelty, the boys earned a second place finish in the silver division of the 2009 Denver Cup, narrowly losing 3-2 during the overtime period of the championship game.  Coach Kelty said of his new team, “They have accomplished something that, as a team, they have never done before, so for that they should be proud.  This past weekend's overall performance has enabled the team to set a standard of hard work, discipline, and good soccer, which will allow this team to be very competitive come league play in a few weeks."

Keep up the good work Swoosh!

The G14 Nike team has had a busy summer
(08.12.09)

Many of us have been on vacations and while others were gone, some players had the opportunity to guest play with other rush teams, including Virginia Rush, with our old director Heather Pedersen.  We are very excited to have gained 3 new players and each one of them has been an amazing addition to our team.  We have been training since the beginning of June and all of us can proudly say that we've improved tremendously.  Our great improvement showed in our play while participating in the PPI, although we didn't get the results that we would have wanted, every one of us was satisfied with the way we worked together as a team.
After the PPI we took a team bonding trip to Water World and we all had loads of fun.  After playing in the Denver Cup we are all excited for the season to come.
Go Rush!

Rush Pikes Peak and University of Louisiana Monroe's Kelly Browne Leads Club Team to Region IV Championship

Many of you would have seen Kelly in the office helping out whilst Lisa is recovering from her surgery, but last week Kelly was with the Colorado Rush U19 Girls team looking to defend her club national championship from a season ago.  Sophomore midfielder Kelly Browne took a big step towards the repeat with a Region IV championship in Lancaster, California over the weekend.

Kelly, a starting central midfielder for the Rush, tallied five assists over the course of the first six matches in the tournament. Playing in arguably the most challenging region of the four in United States Youth Soccer, the Rush have dismantled their opponents to the tune of a 23-3 goal differential through the first six games in claiming the region title.

“We have a really good club team and it is a lot of fun to play with them during the summer, Browne said. “We are just going out there, playing soccer, and having fun."

The Rush has done more than just compete. The Colorado State Champions swept through pool play with an 8-0 win against Hawaii Leahi Premier, a 6-0 win against Oregon FC Portland Crimson, and a close 2-2 shoot-out victory against Utah's Avalanche Premier.

A pair of close wins by the Rush in the quarterfinals and finals over New Mexico Rio Vista and Southern California Eagles was followed by a dominant 3-0 win over the Avalanche in the finals.

For Browne, the continued play against the nation's top competition has the sophomore poised for another strong season at ULM.

Looking to keep its run towards a championship going, the Rush will return to Colorado to train before traveling to Lancaster, Massachusetts and the Youth Soccer National Championships starting July 21.

Respect is the 8th Rush Core Value
Our 8th Core Value states, Respect:  Respect everyone.  Respect the opponent, the rules, your colleagues, your superiors and subordinates.  Be thoughtful and considerate.

Please click here to see a short, interesting video clip about respect.

Rush Core Values
Dear Rush Membership, as we kick off the 2009 Spring season, the Rush BOD and Staff request you take moment to look at the Rush Core Values by clicking here.  Many good points are addressed here but the one that we would like our membership to pay particular close attention to is respect.

Our 8th Core Value states, Respect:  Respect everyone.  Respect the opponent, the rules, your colleagues, your superiors and subordinates.  Be thoughtful and considerate.

Ironically, the athletes we respect are the athletes that portray respect.  When interviewed, you can see the respect that is given to the game and the opponent.  They put others up instead of putting them down.  These athletes, the LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Lionel Messi's exhibit respect when in the public eye.  We at the Rush should not act any different.  So, Staff, Coaches and Player, let the Rush be known for our professional and respectful behavior on and off the field.

Thank you.  Tim Schulz, President.

Brenna Tillman commits to Collegiate Soccer and Skiing
Brenna Tillman, the GK for the Rush Pikes Peak G18 Nike has taken a unique step and committed to play on the Davis & Elkins College (West Virginia) soccer team and be part of their collegiate ski team. Many coaches across the country do not like to mix the skiing and the soccer, due to the possibility of injuries, but Brenna's quality in both sports persuaded the coach to take the unusual step. We wish Brenna the best of luck in both activities.

This season, Lang has started all 16 matches for CSM and is tied for second on the squad in goals (4) and ranks third in total points (8). Three of Lang's four goals are penalty kicks and she has converted all three of her penalty-kick attempts during the 2008 season.
