Rush Pikes Peak at Rush Fest

Rush Pikes Peak was well represented at this year's Rush Fest held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 2 U12 Boys teams, 4 girls from our U12 Swoosh Girls team and our U14 Nike Boys and Girls participated in the event. The  U12 Boys Swoosh Team and their coach Nick Massa benefited greatly in getting to bond and learn each others tendencies as players. It also afforded Coach Massa an intense 4-day period to assess the boys and begin planning positions, tactics and to plan future training. Swoosh improved with each match and now stands poised to succeed this season. Swoosh was joined by players from Tennessee Rush. It was a special opportunity for boys from across the country to come together on one team. Coach Massa extends his thanks to Tennessee Rush and praised all the performance of all the boys over the four days of matches and training.

The U12 Boys Nike team had a successful four days as well. Several new players joined Nike, so it was again a chance for the players to gel as a team. The Nike boys, coming off a successful 2010-2011 campaign, sharpened their passing and combination play. By the fourth match, a dominating 3-1 win, the boys were often hearing Coach Nik Penn's shouts of "good soccer!". Both coaches commended the boys for their effort, improvement, and tremendous attitude. The help of chaperones was also appreciated in making the trip a resounding success!

The 4 girls from the U12 Swoosh team that joined Hawaii Rush (Caili Chastain, Raegen Petch, Lauren Faue and Madison Wojtkowiak) had a great time. Though it was difficult to get to know their new teammates in such a short period of time, the girls all had fun and learned a lot. They were treated to a special experience on the last game day when Rush Soccer President and CEO Tim Schulz arrived just before halftime and coached the girls through the rest of the game!

The U14 Fest started off with a bang as the U14 Nike Girls marched into the opening ceremony singing "When the Rush Go Marching In". The girls began the week with a tie against Texas Nike, followed up with a last second win the next day through a goal from Darby Cross. After a tough loss to the Rush Select team, the girls finished the week with a resounding 6-0 win versus Alaska Nike. The girls and coach Brian Lux were all sporting royal blue dyed hair on the last game day to show their Rush spirit! The U14 Nike boys also had a very successful week, and were the only boys team that truly got into the spirit of the event by singing Rush Songs and cheering their girls and club on. The boys and their coach Dan Highstead finished the week with a hard fought tie versus Virginia Nike. For their combined efforts, the U14 Nike Girls and Boys earned Rush Pikes Peak the coveted "Rush Club of The Week" for this year's Fest. They shared the award with the contingent from Virginia Nike. This is the first time in Pikes Peak history that we have won this award. Well done Nike Boys and Girls! Thank you to all the parents, family members and chaperones that made this a successful trip.
