Disney Showcase Awards and Technical Report
The inaugural US Club Soccer Club Championships held April 12th -16th in Disneyworld Florida saw mixed fortunes for Rush Soccer, but the overriding success was the coming together of players from Rush Clubs across the country, a great experience and showing the rest of the country the camaraderie that comes from being part of Rush Soccer.

The top eight clubs in the country were invited to pit their skills against one other to see who could perform on a club level rather than just individual teams. The boys and girls tournaments were separate, but Rush was one of only three clubs that were represented in both the boys and the girls division. 

Rush added their own flavor to the tournament, with awards for the MVP of each day, the MVP of the tournament and a golden boot award. After each days activities all the teams came together to honor the days MVP and support each others efforts for the coming days.

The Awards for the tournaments were as follows.

Daily MVP - Each day, the staff coaches in attendance came together to name a player of the day for the entire Rush Club. This was a player that had a major impact on their teams’ performance.
Tournament MVP - This award is presented to the player that had the biggest impact throughout the entire tournament. This was based on consistency and was not necessarily given to a player that had won a Daily MVP Award.
Golden Boot - The final award is given to the player that scored the most goals throughout the tournament in a Rush jersey.

Congratulations to all the winners, and all the team mates that aided in the individual accolades.

Technical Summary
The uniqueness of the tournament saw nine coaches including a full time trainer working with injury prevention and rehab and a Keeper coach available for warm ups and game feedback. This was far superior to any other clubs support.

The Boys side of the tournament was not as successful as the girls with regards to wins and losses, but the efforts of the B17 Rush “select” squad, saw players from 6 different clubs coming together for the first time and competing at this level. The B15 and B13 had more stable teams and performed slightly better. Injuries to four of the B13 players, who was already carrying a player that was unable to participate, the strain on the team took its toll.

Although the “W’s” were not as had hoped the experience was without a doubt a positive one for all involved and the work put in by Carlo, Mike and Bill Luetzen had the guys playing good soccer, having a great time and doing Rush proud.

The girls program on the other hand, not only was successful in terms of experience, attitude and work rate, but was also successful for wins and losses.

The G13’s after making an indifferent start, improved as the days went on, and with a 1-0 win over Mass Premier Soccer (MA), they went on to take third place overall with a fantastic overtime 2-1 win over FC Delco (PA). To add to their team performance, Haley Stading was named the MVP for Thursday after her two goals in a 2-2 tie against Internationals SC (OH). Coach Jim Cofer was extremely proud of how the team was performing in the later part of the tournament, and is excited about the upcoming State Cup schedule.

The G15 also did not start the tournament off with a win, but Coach Del Steiwart began building together girls from Colorado and California and as the tournament went on, became more and more dangerous. The second day saw a tie vs. CASL (NC) and the third day saw a win in the final bracket play and a thrilling 2-1 overtime win vs. San Jaun SC (CA). The two goals from Kendra Pemberton, who was playing up to the G15’s, including the winner in extra time, sealed a fantastic end to the tournament.

The G17 team, made up mainly from the Rush Pikes Peak club, also had a fine tournament. After a 1-0 loss to San Juan SC on the first day, they never looked back and were minutes away from playing for the championship game.

Games two and three vs. FC Delco and Mass Premier respectively both ended 3-2 in favour of Rush, with Danielle Foxhoven and Lily Meisner having massive impacts on the game. Danielle’s two goals vs. Delco saw her earn the MVP for the day, only for her to bag a hat-trick the following day, and Lily denying countless shots from the opposition saw the girls move on to the 3rd/4th place game vs. CASL (NC).

In summary, this was a fantastic event for Rush Soccer, and put in lights what your club is about. Although many clubs are gauged on their wins and losses, Rush never forgets the importance of the human growth, the experience, the fun and the ability to come together as one club, that cannot be matched anywhere in the country.
