April 4 and 6 were the much anticipated dates for the Rush Pikes Peak seasonal 7v7 tournament. The U11 and U12 boys kicked off the event with over 80 players participating on 10 teams. After the four round games, the Deadly Unicorns and the Hairless Headbands battled out for the first semi- final with Grass FC vs No-Namers in the other half.
Deadly Unicorns took the Hairless Headbands all the way to PK’s, and were defeated only in sudden death shootout sending the Headbands through to the final to face off with Grass FC.
With the rest of the boys cheering on the final, Grass FC (Graysen, Caden, Landon, Matthew, Jair, Christian and Matthew) came out victorious as B11-12 7v7 Champs (Pictured below).
The girls U11-U12 girls followed with 8 teams playing for a spot in the semi-finals. Again after 4 round games, The Incredibles, The Flash and the Reject Penguins all took six points from their 4 games with Blue Crush edging out the Fire Cleats on goal difference to sneak into the 4th semi- final spot.
The semi-final match up saw Blue Crush defeat The Flash in Pk’s and Incredibles edging out the Reject Penguins. The final was back and forth with the lots of singing from the supporters on the sideline. The tense affair finished with Blue Crush Kat, Savvy, Haley, Claire, Anna, Mary and Katelyn (the under-dog coming in to the semi-finals) taking the accolades of G11-12 7v7 champs.
On Wednesday it was the turn of the U13 and U14’s and first up were the boys. Another great turnout of over 80 boys, saw ten teams battle it out for a spot in the semi-finals. Footballs of Glory came out of the round games with 7 out of a possible 8 points with the Flying Feathers, Purified Water and Advocare all joining them in the semi -finals with 6 points each.
The Flying Feathers cruised into the final but it took PK’s for Purified Water to get past Advocare. The final also went all the way to PK’s and the Flying Feathers were triumphant, staying unbeaten throughout the entire tournament. The fourth and final session was the U13 and U14 girls and again ten teams competed in the event. The round games were again close with Avocado and Fruit Loops missing out on the semi- finals only on goals conceded. This left Upper 90° to face the Happy Campers in semi-final one and the Black Invincible’s to take on Something Good in the other Semi-Final.
The tight games continued through the semis with both games going to Pk’s. Some outstanding Goalkeeping helped Happy Campers through to face Something Good in the final. Watched by 60 cheering supporters Something Good went on to win the tournament but were taken all the way to PK’s again. Congrats to Zoe, Taylor, Brooke, Chloe, Alex and Alison.
